Stefan Djukic has become the youngest overall winner of a Martin Wills Memorial Trust award.
The
awards were presented at Rowley Mile racecourse, Newmarket, where
winners were given an all-expensespaid day of racing. The prizes were
given for creative writing relating to any aspect of horse racing, open
to young people resident in the UK or the Republic of Ireland.
Djukic,
17, a pupil at St Paul’s School, London, won £1,250 for his article,
“Cash flow”, about how abundant winnings cause embarrassment for one
generation and pride for the next.
The under-26 runner-up was Francesca Bardsley from Lidgate, a journalist on the Newmarket Journal.
Bardsley, 23, was awarded £750 for her article, “Fell in love with a horse”.
Joanna
Hubbard, 17, a pupil at Marlborough College, Wiltshire, won the next
best entry in the under-19s competition. She received £500 for her
feature, “Lost at the races”.
All three articles will be published in the Racing Post and Irish Field.
