Tech weeklies IT Week and Computing to merge

By Rachael Gallagher

Incisive Media is planning to merge two of its two technology weeklies, IT Week and Computing as part of a restructuring of its Business Technology Group.

Editorial teams across the group, which also includes online titles VNUnet and The Inquirer, have been reorgnised according to ‘content specialism’rather than publication, which means some journalists will work across more than one publication.

Tim Weller, group chief executive of Incisive Media, said in statement: “Readers’ information requirements have changed. They want high quality content that is delivered in a manner that suits their mobile and busy lifestyles.

“Our advertisers want the demand-generation benefits of online, yet the reassurance of print. Delivering the right content in the right medium increases its chances of being read, offering advertisers greater opportunities to interact with audiences.”

The merger of Computing and IT Week to one title will ‘continue to deliver Computing’s insightful business-focused articles as well as a wealth of technology coverage from IT Week”. The new magazine will have news briefs from the previous seven days and a new look, computing.co.uk will deliver online news and analysis.

Websites VNUnet and The Inquirer will not change.

Robin Booth, publishing director of Incisive’s BTG, said: ‘Today’s audience differentiates between news and analysis; between brief, need-to-know information and lengthy detail; between immediacy and convenience.’

‘Print cannot compete with online when it comes to breaking news, so it should play to its strengths by delivering in-depth content that is highly relevant yet not as time critical as breaking news.’
