The Star, Sheffield, has been named daily newspaper of the year at the Johnston Press awards. The weekly title went to the broadsheet Bucks Herald and the free newspaper of the year was the Milton Keynes Citizen.
Best web editorial content went to Hemel Today, the site run by the Hemel Gazette. The Evening Telegraph, Peterborough, won digital publishing centre of the year for its Peterborough Today website and Nick Owens of the Lancashire Evening Post won trainee journalist of the year.
Worksop Guardian editor George Robinson and sales manager Sue Rogers received the award for the highest weekly newspaper sale, for its 11 per cent ABC increase.
The Scarborough Evening News received the award for the bestperforming daily title, while the best community initiative award went to the Sunderland Echo.
The Lancaster Guardian won the best promotion award for its Voice of 2005 competition, where local singers sent recordings to the paper, which were placed on its website, allowing readers to log on and vote for their favourite.
