Sky News is planning a service of Irish news and sport early next year for which it is recruiting seven staff.
The broadcaster will transmit a 30-minute bulletin at 9pm each weekday evening from a studio in Dublin city centre. New recruits will include a news editor and a presenter. An anchor presenter will be based in the London studio.
The Dublin team will be supported by the Belfast office, which has two correspondents, Gary Honeyford and David Blevins.
Sky News is also reported to be planning a news review of the week’s major Irish events to be broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays. Mark Deering, director of Sky Ireland, has said that the news service is the first of a number of Irish-based programmes planned by Sky over the next few years.
