Speaking of apologies, The Sun ‘s Graham Dudman is leading an
expedition to achieve some form of forgiveness from the people of
Merseyside, 15 years after his newspaper’s catastrophic front page,
headlined “The Truth”, falsely reported misbehaviour by Liverpool fans
after the Hillsborough disaster.
For the families of the victims,
the anger is a long way from subsiding, even if none of the existing
editorial team were working there in 1989. The sins of the fathers are
still being visited on The Sun s.
Too little, too late? A cynical commercial PR exercise?
The
paper will have to battle these charges by proving it is genuine in its
remorse and in its desire to help the families’ campaign for justice.
This is going to be a journey that will be made one careful step at a time.
