Pearson has made Financial Times Asia editor John Ridding (right) the paper’s chief executive.
Current FT chief exec Olivier Fleurot will move to Pearson to “develop plans for applying emerging digital technologies in the publishing and information industries”.
Ridding, 40, led development of the FT’s Chinese language website, which was launched last year and claims 400,000 registered users. Before moving to the paper’s Hong Kong office in 2003, he was deputy editor and managing editor, and has also been Hong Kong bureau chief and Paris correspondent.
He started his career at analysis firm Oxford Analytica and has a first-class degree in philosophy from Oxford.
