Regional ABC breakdown for Wales, Scotland and NI

Every daily newspaper in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland saw their sales decline in the second half of 2011, according to the latest figures from ABC.

Just two newspapers in Wales increased circulation in the last six months of 2012, the Wales on Sunday (up 0.2 per cent to 28,662) and the Weekly Argus, which was up 3.2 per cent to 19,814.

Trinity Mirror Celtic Newspaper series, which has been by a series of editorial cutbacks in recent years, were among the worst-performing newspapers in the UK. The Rhondda Leader was down 19.3 per cent to 7,055, the Cynon Valley Leader fell 18.4 per cent to 5,540, the Gwent Gazette was down 18.3 per cent to 5,373, the Glamorgan Gazette fell 16.8 per cent to 13,677 and the Pontypridd Llantrisant Observer fell 16.7 per cent to 6,067.

In Scotland the Dundee Evening Telegraph was the best performing daily (down 1.8 per cent to 22,904), followed by the Dundee Courier & Advertiser (down 5.2 per cent to 59,754, while the Aberdeen Press & Journal continues to have the highest circulation (66,781).

Northern Ireland’s three daily newspapers all saw circulation decline between July to September 2011. The Ulster News Letter was the best performing, down 4.7 per cent to 22,548.
