John Penman, business and finance editor of the Scottish Daily
Record is expected to leave the newspaper soon, writes Hamish Mackay.
Penman
was told that his Daily Record post was being axed and he is reported
to be negotiating a package and possible alternative employment within
Trinity Mirror.
Penman is also editor-in-chief of Scottish Business Insider – the monthly magazine also owned by Trinity Mirror.
A
Trinity Mirror spokesman said: “We are currently consulting with John
Penman to examine the possibility of alternative roles within the
business.”
Industry insiders are surprised at the decision to axe Penman’s post in what is believed to be a cost-cutting exercise.
He
was brought in two years ago to beef up the tabloid’s business and
finance coverage, and it was generally accepted by the industry and
competitors that he was doing an excellent job.
Penman was the launch editor and managing director of business daily Business AM, which closed in 2002.
