Former Prime Minister Tony Blair has won “substantial damages” in an out-of-court settlement with the Daily Mail.
The Lawyer reported today that damages won by the Blairs were paid to several charities.
The contentious pictures are believed to have been taken using long-lense photography of the Blairs in secluded areas on holiday in Jamaica.
DJ Sara Cox and her husband won damages of £50,000 in 2003 when The People published long-lense photos of her sunbathing topless on a private beach.
The Blair’s solicitor Graham Atkins told The Lawyer: “‘They have always accepted a certain level of media scrutiny, particularly whilst Tony Blair was prime minister but ultimately they and their family have the right to a private life.”
