The Liverpool Echo is preparing for the football season with a radical overhaul of its Saturday package.
The Weekend Echo will now run to at least 92 pages, with the introduction of three new sections and a revamped Football Echo incorporated into it.
Previously a stand-alone publication, the 24-page Football Echo will provide match previews, new columns and features.
The Weekend Echo will also include an extra jobs supplement and a new nostalgia section recalling Merseyside’s past.
Echo editor and editor-in-chief of Trinity Mirror North West and North Wales, Mark Dickinson, said: “All the research we have done indicates that people’s newspaper buying habits are very different on a Saturday from during the week.
“Many of them go to the supermarket or local shops quite early in the morning before getting on with the rest of their weekend.
“Merseyside has an unquenchable thirst for sport and we believe this package is the best way to give the fans their weekend fix.”
The first edition of the new-look Weekend Echo comes out on 14 August.
