The National Union of Journalists is organising a rally in London next week on source protection.
It comes after Sunday Tribune journalist Suzanne Breen was hauled before the courts by the Northern Ireland police service, which is seeking an order forcing her to reveal her sources in a story about the Real IRA murders of two British soldiers in March.
Breen will join other source protection experts and press freedom campaigners at the NUJ headquarters next Tuesday at 6.30pm. Bill Goodwin, who won a landmark protection case at the European Court of Human Rights, will also speak.
A further rally is planned in Dublin at 12.45pm on 28 May, including Breen’s editor, Noirin Hegarty.
Breen’s court hearing is scheduled for Friday 29 May. The NUJ is organising a protest outside the court and the Northern Ireland Office in London at 9.30am that day.
