NUJ general secretary Jeremy Dear faced a mock paramilitary death-squad outside Parliament to highlight the treatment of journalists and trade unionists in Colombia. Joined by MPs, former ministers and 11 trade union general secretaries, Dear called for an end to British military aid to the Colombian regime until the rights of journalists are respected and those who murder or threaten them are brought to justice.
More than 20 journalists have been assassinated, 15 kidnapped and 35 forced to leave the country in the past two years. The protest was organised by campaign charity War on Want and trade union solidarity group Justice for Colombia.
