The News of the World was not deterred when the Sunday Mirror promoted Polly Graham to stop her leaving just over two weeks ago. It came back with a better offer and this time, said Graham: “You couldn’t say ‘no’ twice or they would never ask you again.”
So this week the NoW was able to confirm the appointment of Graham, 30, as its assistant editor (showbiz), working alongside Rav Singh. Graham is currently Sunday Mirror assistant editor and columnist.
The pair are to write a “fantastic new column”, said Graham. NoW editor Andy Coulson said: “With their combined skill, experience and contacts, I know together they will produce the most formidable showbiz column in Fleet Street.”
Graham waits to learn her leaving date from the MGN stable. She began her career as a graduate trainee on the Daily Express in 1994 and spent two years at the Daily Mail as a news reporter before moving to The Mirror as a feature-writer.
Her post as deputy to showbiz columnist Matthew Wright led her naturally to heading the first team of 3am girls.
She went to the Sunday Mirror two years ago to write the 24/7 column and was made assistant editor (showbusiness) there only last month.
