Newsquest shake-up sees net loss of six jobs on Watford-based titles

By Samuel Osborne

Nine editorial jobs are set to be cut, and three jobs created, as part of a shake-up by regional publisher Newsquest.

An internal memo regarding the redundancies, seen by Holdthefrontpage, says that nine posts will be at risk of redundancy at titles in Hertfordshire.

Posts affected include deputy group editor, associate editor, editorial manager, group sports editor, deputy sports editor, group features editor, deputy features editor and web co-ordinator.

Holdthefrontpage also reports that four news desks will be combined into one, based at the offices of the Watford Observer.

Under the reported proposals, staff are being invited to apply for the new roles of: production editor, sports content editor role and features content editor.

The latest changes come as a group of 18 Newsquest titles in North London, Essex, Herts and Bucks were placed under a single group editor this month. North London Times and Independent series editor Martin Buhagiar and Watford Observer editor Peter Wilson-Leary took redundancy.
