Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s official magazine gets a relaunch next month and new name – The Yorker.
The revamp comes as NewsPost, the Dewsbury publishing company founded by Danny Lockwood, takes over production of the quarterly magazine. It has 10,000 subscribers and Lockwood is intent broadening its reader base by putting it on news-stands. The price is £2.50.
Lockwood said: “We’ve got bags of new features and columnists and the best sporting brand in the county.”
The editor is former Yorkshire Post sub-editor James Greenfield and one of the new writers will be Yorkshire Evening Post sports columnist John Morgan.
NewsPost went into magazine publishing with League Weekly, which Lockwood said passed the sales of its predecessor The Rugby Leaguer after only eight months and is now selling 7,500 copies a week at a £1 each.
Lockwood claims he has had some interesting approaches from within the industry by people who want to launch publications under the NewsPost umbrella.
NewsPost would provide production and back office facilities and would recruit local people and set up a satellite office with a broadband internet connection.
One is already in development for this summer, he said.
