News Guardian: poster campaign
The News Guardian in Whitley Bay has offered a reward of £3,000 to help find the killers of a Newcastle student who was murdered two years ago.
Sarah Cameron was killed after a night out with friends on 20 April 2000 and the News Guardian, along with other local papers, has covered the murder inquiry for the past two years.
It has been running a poster campaign and continued appeals for information.
Editor Ross Weeks said: "The News Guardian has covered the murder inquiry from the very start, and the sensitive reporting of Nick Martin has gained three major awards in the last year, one at national level.
"Because of this, we felt that we should contribute something positive towards the inquiry, hence the offer of the reward.
"We hope that this offer will help the police and encourage someone to come forward who can help bring an end to this sad case.
Detective Superintendent Steve Bolam, leading the hunt for Sarah’s killer, said: "There may be someone out there who is motivated by a reward.
"The reward could open the door to them giving us a piece of information which could be vital and if it does then the News Guardian has got my support. It’s another way towards encouraging people to come forward."
