New project for B editor

By Press Gazette

Johnson: launched titles abroad

Gina Johnson, editor of women’s glossy B, is stepping down to develop a new magazine for B’s publisher Hachette Filipacchi.

Johnson was lured to the UK from Australia to edit B in 1999. She has been working on the new concept as well as B over the past few months, but has now been given the go-ahead to give it her full attention.

“It’s at a stage where I am comfortable working on it full time. The future of our business is magazine publishing and within the next year or two, Hachette will be seriously looking at developing new launches.

“There are quite a few ideas floating around the Hachette stable, but I’m specifically looking at this one,” she said.

Insiders suggest Hachette will draw on her experience in the women’s sector.

Johnson has worked on a number of launches abroad. She was editorial director on the launch of B in Australia and she launched the first edition of Cleo in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Johnson has recently been working on developments of B with new art director Peter Stephens, who joined from Living Etc.
