New evidence claims Robert Capa Spanish Civil War photo faked

By Dominic wireposts

The Independent today reports new evidence that Robert Capa staged one of the most famous news photographs in history – the 1936 shot of a fighter in the Spanish Civil War apparently captured on film in the moment he was shot dead.

Spanish paper El Periodico has analysed the picture and claims it was taken 10km from an inactive battle front.

The paper adds that this “youthful pecadillo” was cancelled out by the countless later photos for which Capa risked, and later lost, his life in 1954.
