The great British love of curry is to be celebrated with the launch of a new consumer magazine dedicated to the popular dish.
Chaat! magazine hopes to capitalise on the growing popularity of food magazines in the UK, a sector that grew by a third according to the last set of official ABC figures.
The bi-monthly magazine title is due to launch on 9 May and is the brainchild of the British Curry Club.
It will feature stories on the latest trends, curry events, gadgets, travel pieces, recipes and interviews with famous curry lovers and chefs. The magazine will also ask readers to vote for their favourite dish and to share recipes and cooking techniques.
Editor Dave Jenkins said in a release today: “Curry is a hugely popular dish throughout the UK and I think that a magazine dedicated to the dish and its fans is just what’s needed.
“We’re looking to include recipes and tips from everyone, whether it’s a restaurant chef or your granny.”
Chaat! will cost £2.50 per issue. It will have 66 pages at launch and an initial print run of 25,000.
According to the latest ABC figures, the circulation of cookery and kitchen magazines grew by 36 per cent year on year in the second half of 2010, with a combined print run of 8.2 million.
This growth was helped by supermarket magazines from Asda, Morrisons and Waitrose.
