New apps let readers browse Independent and Guardian without leaving Facebook

By Dominic wireposts

The Independent and Guardian today both launched Facebook apps which enable readers to read their content without ever leaving Facebook.

I just tried out The Guardian app and was a bit alarmed to see it creating a publicly visible timeline of articles I have read. Is anyone interested in that?

The point appears to be that readers can see what their friends are reading, share articles more easily and comment on them within Facebook. The publishers are serving their own ads to Facebook readers via the apps.
