Steve Lowe has been appointed editorial director of Local Sunday Newspapers, the group which owns Bedfordshire on Sunday.
He will join the LSN board and will be responsible for editorial policy across all the titles.
Lowe joined BoS in January 1998 as a political reporter after working for 18 months as a parttime columnist.
Before that he was a painter and decorator and local councillor who came to the notice of LSN founder Frank Branston by supplying the paper with good stories.
In January 1999 he was made news editor and in April 2000, editor of BoS. In 2001 he won the Press Gazette regional press scoop of the year about dead bodies being left on the floor of the Chapel of Rest at Bedford Hospital and was also named the Newspaper Society’s free newspaper journalist of the year.
LSN chief executive Mike Richardson said: “We have some exciting plans for the group in which Steve is going to play a big part.”
