The Milton Keynes Citizen has launched a sports supplement to coincide with Wimbledon FC’s controversial move to the town.
The full-colour eight-page sports pullout was launched in the 2 October edition of the Citizen. It is seen as complementing the four pages of sport carried in its sister title, the Sunday Citizen.
Citizen editorial director Jan Henderson said: “The Dons’ arrival in Milton Keynes is good news for the city, whatever people may think of the motivation for the move. As the leading local paper we had to raise our game to provide the coverage readers expect of a First Division team.
“We are taking on an extra reporter and sub-editor whose priority will be our increased sports coverage.”
The expansion follows the free distribution Citizen producing its biggest paper on 25 September, which ran to a massive 372 pages.
