I’ve often wondered about the people who write letters to some of our daily newspapers. What is their motivation? And do they not recognise their own banality?
Take this example from today’s Daily Mail Peterborough column – a bizarre throwback to the Fifties if ever there was one.
Mr Simon Randy writes: “The other day, I was cooking dinner and, when I had finished, I looked at the baking tray I had used. Looking back at me was the shape of ET!”
There was even a picture purporting to illustrate this remarkable fact. Sadly, I can’t find it on the Mail’s website so you’ll have to use your imagination.
