Stuart Laundy has been appointed news editor at The Orcadian, the weekly newspaper for the Orkney Isles. Laundy, who is from Darlington, arrives from The Shields Gazette where he was deputy news editor for two-and-half years.
Prior to that he worked on titles abroad, including the English-language Gulf News in Abu Dhabi.
“We’re going through a time of change at The Orcadian and I’m looking forward to steering us through,” he said. “Next year the paper is 150-years-old and we’ll be sitting down and working out how to mark the anniversary.”
But Laundy won’t be celebrating the occasion with a dram like the native islanders. “Guinness is more my drink of choice,” he admits.
