Launch date set for new London freesheet

By Press Gazette

The backers of the London Weekly, a new freesheet newspaper set to rival the London Evening Standard, confirmed yesterday that it would launch on 1 February.

The freesheet, which plans to distribute around 250,000 copies a day on Fridays and Saturdays, will launch with £10.5m funding Global Publishing Group, a partnership of five private investors who as yet remain unidentified.

A media pack prepared for potential advertisers says publisher Global Publishing Group has raised the money to launch the title, an accompanying website and a web radio and TV station.

It is also likely to be similar in editorial content to the now defunct thelondonpaper and London Lite, with the media pack promising “entertainment, light politics, music, sports’and around 30 per cent of the content generated by readers.
