Former Daily Express news sub turned author, Robin McGibbon, is releasing a talking book of his conversations with the notorious criminal twins Ronnie and Reggie Kray, and their older brother Charlie.
The Kray Tapes is being released by Right Recordings on 5 May, to tie in with the 40th anniversary of the twins’ arrest. McGibbon claims to be the only writer with all three brothers on tape, and has recordings of Ronnie in Broadmoor prison, Reggie on the phone from various prisons, and older brother Charlie reliving his life for his book, Me & My Brothers, penned by McGibbon.
Charlie can be heard describing the anguish he suffered being the brother of Britain’s most infamous gangsters, and how the twins’ lack of respect for him destroyed his life.
McGibbon, who says he was a confidant of the Kray family for 10 years, said: ‘I was amazed to discover that the twins’ voices didn’t match their fearsome image.
‘But, more than anything, the tapes reveal just how different Charlie was to them, and how vastly different the twins were to each other.
‘I’m sure that the public will be as fascinated as I was.”
