BBC presenter Gavin Esler received an honorary degree from the
University of Kent at an award ceremony at Canterbury Cathedral on 13
July.
Esler, a presenter on the BBC Two programme Newsnight, also
hosts Radio 4’s Four Corners, BBC World’s Dateline London and BBC News
24’s Hardtalk. He has frequently hosted BBC One’s Panorama.
A
graduate of the University of Kent, Esler has also written for many
newspapers, including the Daily Mail, The Scotsman and The Independent.
From
1989 to 1997, Esler was the BBC’s chief North America correspondent and
has reported for the corporation from countries including China, Cuba,
Egypt and Russia.
He won a Royal Television Society award for his
reporting on the US military build-up in the Aleutian Islands between
the US and Siberia.
