Two European journalists and their American guide, sentenced to 15 years’ jail in Laos, have been freed. Thierry Falise, a Belgian photographer and reporter, and Vincent Reynaud, a French freelance photographer, were arrested with Naw Karl Mua, an American of ethnic Hmong origin, while reporting on clashes between armed forces and rebels. The International Federation of Journalists has called for the release of the Laotian guides jailed for helping Falise and Reynaud.
