Journalism student Mark Wilson, 22, has scooped the Daily Telegraph Young Journalist of the Year award after a write-off with five other finalists.
Wilson, from Harlow College, was one of six chosen from 300 entrants to report from the Damovo British Masters golf tournament at the Forest of Arden.
His article was published in the paper and he picks up £500 as well as a week’s work experience on the Daily Telegraph sports desk.
Entries were judged by Daily Telegraph sports editor David Welch, deputy sports editor Keith Perry, chief sports writer Paul Hayward and Paul Trow, chairman of the Sport Writers Association of Great Britain.
The award aims to give young writers and sports enthusiasts the opportunity to develop their journalistic skills and meet industry professionals.
