ITV journalists may be balloted on strike action over potential job losses in the regions of England and Wales.
The NUJ is joining with broadcasting unions BECTU and Amicus in deciding to ballot their members on strike action if ITV announces further job cuts before proposals by media regulator Ofcom have been ratified.
Ofcom is proposing to allow ITV regional franchises in England to reduce their non-news output – features, lifestyle and documentary programmes – by 50 per cent from the start of next year.
A public consultation on the proposal closes on November 24-but the NUJ said it suspects that the cuts will have been decided before then.
Last week NUJ reps at the BBC said they were prepared to take industrial action if rumours of job cuts became a reality.
