Is iPhone App future of local news?

By Dominic wireposts

Some 50 Mobile Local News applications are now live in the US on the Apple App Store, according to Inergize Digital and DoApp Inc (via Editor and Publisher.

According to E&P, the technology distributes locally-branded news from existing print and broadcast outlets to iPhone and IPod touch owners. The free application provides text, images and videos to users.

It’s an interesting idea and surely only a matter of time before something similary is lunached in the UK. But it seems doubtful whether it can take off in a big way if limited only to iPhones.

A more general application for use on all smart phones could be an important part of the future of local news.
