IRN, the main provider of news to the UK's commercial radio stations has launched an environment desk to further enhance its news coverage.
The new desk will work alongside the Money division, highlighting the interconnectedness of both subjects.
IRN, which supplies news to 300 commercial radio stations, said the move reflected an increasing environmental awarness in both politics and society as a whole, adding: "It's the right time for IRN to bring environmental issues to the forefront of its news agenda".
Julia Pittam, who heads IRN's Environmental & Money desk, said: "We're very excited to be giving environmental issues a national platform on commercial radio. The issue now comes up in everyday news — be it gas-guzzling cars being heavily penalised, customers being urged to 'carbon offset', households being fined for not recycling properly or Iceland restarting commercial whaling."
