Type of article: What Loaded wants most from freelancers is ideas. The one thing we don’t get enough of is hungry writers sending us brilliant ideas that we’ve never seen before. Loaded works this way – if you’ve found a jaw-dropping story in Australia, Mongolia or even Hull, we’ll send you there.
Topics: Loaded is a magazine that likes its writers to get stuck in. We’ve sent writers to Poland and Hungary to attend football matches with hooligans and had our lights punched out in a boxing ring in the Australian outback in the name of a good story. But that’s not the only way you can get in the magazine – we’re always looking for columnists, cracking celebrity interviews and weird and wonderful stories. Know the world’s smallest cat? Give us a bell. Found the longest bar in the world? Go drink there for us.
How to pitch: Give me a call, introduce yourself and your idea, and then email over your pitch. Tell us how the photos will look – what will the holding shot be? Tell us how the intro will flow and then give detailed bullet points of the main areas the feature will cover. Ideas for sidebars are great, too.
Post-pitch: Don’t get annoyed if your first idea isn’t spot on. Go away, think again and come back with some more ideas. Oh, and don’t go mad and start sending threatening emails, as one person did. If we like your idea, we will be in touch, we will discuss the content of the feature with you and then give you a written brief to follow so all parties are happy with the end product.
Images: If they have already done the story, then naturally yes. If they are pitching an idea, we will send a snapper with them.
