The Evening Herald, Plymouth, has published a special edition front page for troops heading to the Gulf.
Two Plymouth-based ships – HMS Ocean and HMS Fearless – are part of the amphibious battle group and on board are 3 Commando Brigade, Royal Marines, also based in the city.
The front of the special carries a message from the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, and inside are pictures of the Marines in action. A Union flag takes up the whole of the back page.
The mayor’s message read: "You carry with you the hearts of the people of Plymouth and the south-west."
The four-page wrapround surrounded Monday’s edition of the paper and was sent via British Forces Post Office to HMS Ocean. It was accompanied by a letter from editor Alan Qualtrough to the captain, Adrian Johns, who was interviewed by the Herald earlier this year when he took command of HMS Ocean.
Qualtrough wished him luck and said the paper looked forward to seeing his men on their safe return.
