Hello! wins UK bidding war for Brad and Angelina baby pics

By Press Gazette

Hello! magazine has won the UK bidding for the first official pictures of Shiloh, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's baby for a reported $3.5m and is chasing websites who have published the exclusive images ahead of tomorrow's [Thursday's] release date.

Hello!
won the UK and Spanish rights to the pictures in a fierce bidding war,
and an undisclosed sum will now to the Hollywood couple's charities of
choice, which have not been named.

The magazine pushed back its
publication date from Tuesday to tomorrow [Thursday] to secure the
pictures, which People magazine will also publish in the US, for over
$4m, according to the New York Post. Worldwide deals could net the chosen charities up to $10, a record for celebrity baby pictures.

Hello! features editor
Juliet Herd said: "It's a credit to the magazine that the couple choose
us as the preferred vehicle for showing the first baby pictures.
Obviously they recognised that we would do them justice and treat them
with due respect."

Herd said that Hello! had instructed its
lawyers to investigate "illegally obtained" copies of the pictures
which had leaked unto the internet for "a clear and flagrant abuse of
copyright". The change of publication date is not usual in the weekly
news magazines market as titles compete to be the first with the big
celebrity and royal weddings or breaking news.
