Project editor for Tesco magazine’s telecom title, Let’s Talk About, Andrew Gillingwater has returned to his love of cars to edit BMW magazine.
The move comes after former consultant editor Jason Barlow moved to Emap in August to edit Car Magazine.
Gillingwater started on Ford magazine in 1997. He later moved to Emap and became editor of Fleet Car before moving to Haymarket where he he headed special projects including the Aston Martin year book. He left in April to freelance on titles including Toyota’s magazine, In Front, and Vauxhall Magazine. Most recently he was working on Tesco magazine’s telecom supplements and the standalone title, Let’s Talk About, which distributes 500,000 copies.
Gillingwater said: “The lifestyle element of BMW magazine isn’t strong enough at present, it needs to be relevant and exciting. We will be taking on board the publishing tricks of consumer magazines. Our readers are used to reading The Telegraph, GQ magazine and Vogue which are packed with information so we need to have as much detail as possible. I want to make it as sexy and aspirational and connect with the reader.”
