Reed, Emap and CMPi are believed to have made bids to buy The Builder Group, writes Ruth Addicott.
Sources say Emap sees an obvious fit with its existing portfolio which includes Construction News, Architect’s Journal and New Civil Engineer. Like the other contenders, Emap is thought to be particularly keen to acquire the Barbour Index, given its experience publishing directories such as Brad.
The Builder Group has around 220 staff with offices in London and Manchester. It launched its first magazine, The Builder, in 1842 which changed its name to Building in 1966. The group used to be part of the international business publishing arm of Vivendi, but was acquired by Cinven earlier this year.
Housing Today, Construction Manager and Building Services Journal are among its titles.
