Scotland’s First Minister Jack McConnell will present the Scottish Press Photographers awards at a ceremony at tourist attraction Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh on 25 April.
Revived after an absence of five years, the awards have attracted more than 3,000 entries, and 38 photographers and two newspapers have been chosen across 11 categories — representing many of Scotland’s major media titles.
Freelances earned nine nominations.
Shortlisted entries include seven from The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday, and six from The Herald and Sunday Herald. Press and photography agencies are also well represented.
Thirteen pictures in the Open category are for the first time being judged by the public.
