Empire has signed up Max Power’s Will Lawrence as its new deputy editor, writes Ruth Addicott.
Lawrence, who was assistant editor on Max Power, also published by Emap, said it was a “wrench” leaving the car title, but the chance to join Empire was one he couldn’t refuse – despite being in a completely different market. “They couldn’t be more polarised. The attraction with Max Power was that it was brave, daring and risky, but I fancied getting my teeth stuck into something a bit more intelligent,” he said.
Lawrence worked for Max Power for two years, having previously freelanced for FHM and Smash Hits! Prior to that he edited a B2B title, TV Asia, in Singapore and before that he was editor of Picture Business, published by Emap Fashion.
The newly created post coincides with the appointment of Ian Stevens, who has joined as art editor, replacing Kevin Newman, who recently left to go to New York.
Stevens has spent the past year working on Redwood’s Teachers.
