Empire named PPA consumer magazine of the year

By Oliver Luft

Monthly film title Empire was named consumer magazine of the year at the PPA awards last night.

Bauer Media, publisher of Empire, collected a second prize at the gala ceremony hosted by the PPA, the magazine trade body, as weekly fashion title Grazia collected the award for editorial campaign of the year.

The consumer media brand of the year prize went to BBC Worldwide title Good Food.

Emap’s Health Service Journal was named business media brand of the year. The publisher also picked up a second award when Violetta Boxill and Cecilia Lindgren were named business title designers of the year for their work on The Architectural Review.

Morgan Rees was named consumer magazine editor of the year for his work at the helm of Men’s Health, a joint publishing venture between National Magazine Company and Rodale, one of the few men’s titles to have grown circulation in recent years.

The National Magazine Company also collected a second award as Esquire contributor Rachel Cooke was named consumer magazine writer of the year.

Stuart Macdonald, from Inside Housing, was named business media editor of the year at the 1950s-themed ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
