Ellis: pursuing a freelance career
Paul Ellis, picture editor at The Sentinel, Stoke-on-Trent, has left the paper to work as a freelance photographer and picture editor.
The former Press Association sports picture editor and Manchester Evening News assistant picture editor commuted to Staffordshire from Liverpool, where he will now be based, to picture edit the evening and Sunday titles.
Since leaving his post Ellis has worked on stories for the national press including The Times and the Daily Mail. He said: “The contacts I have made in the industry have been supportive.
I told many of them I would be needing work and they have been so positive. I am grateful for their help.”
Ellis began his career as a photojournalist in 1996 at the Sevenoaks Chronicle in Kent. He returns to his roots as a photographer having worked for Mercury Press Agency in Liverpool, News Team in Manchester and the Ross Parry agency in Leeds and Sheffield.
He has been replaced at The Sentinel by Derby Evening Telegraph photographer Martin Elliott.
