Yorkshire Post sports editor Ian Day is returning to the Press Association to head its sports photography department in Howden, East Yorkshire.
His appointment coincides with the relocation of PA’s sport picture desk from London to Howden, where PA’s sports desk is based.
Day will be responsible for developing the agency’s sports photography output while Steve Stocker, who has had special responsibility for sports photos on the London picture desk, has been appointed deputy to Martin Keene, head of pictures.
Day has worked at the Ross Parry Agency in Leeds, the Bradford Telegraph & Argus and PA, between two stints at the Yorkshire Post.
Commenting on his appointment, Day said: “It’s a fantastic time to be moving here with so many big sporting events on the horizon.
“It will be great to be back there as I have really missed it.”
Day takes up the post in November.
