Northcliffe Newspapers’ managing director Alec Davidson is understood to have resigned and will be replaced by Associated Newspapers executive Kevin Beatty.
Beatty, former managing director of the Mirror Group’s Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail, became managing director of the Mail on Sunday in 1996, and was subsequently made managing director of Associated’s Metro and of the Standard. He was most recently chief operating officer of Associated New Media.
Davidson had been with Northcliffe since 1984 He became deputy managing director in 1989, stepping up to replace Ian Park as md in 1995.
His career began with Thomson Group Marketing Services and ranged through top level positions with Thomson Regional Newspapers, including the deputy md’s position at the Western Mail and Echo in Cardiff, and with Northcliffe, where he was md of the Western Times company in Devon and the Western Morning News in Plymouth.
