College competition

By Press Gazette

The Wakefield Express Group is launching an award for the best handout paper at a first attempt written by students at three NCTJ colleges.

Entries will be accepted from 2003 calendar year students at Trinity and All Saints College in Leeds, Sheffield College (Norton) and Sheffield University taking their preliminary examinations. There is a £150 prize.

Editor Ed Asquith said: “The award reinforces our links with the colleges and is a reflection of gratitude for their co-operation in our recruitment of trainee reporters.”

The group’s titles include the Wakefield Express, Pontefract and Castleford Express, Selby Times, Dewsbury Reporter, Mirfield Reporter, Morley Advertiser, Morley Observer, Batley News, Birstall News and Spenborough Guardian.
