Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

CMPi construction magazines in redundancy discussions

By Paul McNally

CMP Information has announced it is to begin redundancy consultations with staff at its Built Environment division – publisher of Building, BD and Property Week.

The new CMPi Built Environment chief executive, Adrian Barrick, briefed the division’s 400 staff this morning about the proposed changes, which he said were in response to the downturn in the construction industry.

Barrick would not comment on the number of jobs the group was looking to cut, but said ‘other cost-saving initiatives’were being considered and redundancies would be the last resort.

He said a statutory consultation period with staff at risk of redundancy woould begin ‘within the next week”.

Barrick, a former editor of Building magazine, was made chief executive of the Built Environment division last month.

His appointment followed the exit of CMPi chief executive Gary Hughes in July when he was made redundant after a restructuring of the business.

The “delayering” process reorganised CMPi into four businesses – each with their own chief executive.
