A former RTE head of religious programmes, Billy Fitzgerald, has died in Gloucestershire.
Fitzgerald had been a priest of the Dublin archdiocese for 35 years and was a member of the groundbreaking Radharc film team.
He was head of religious programmes at RTE from 1975 – succeeding Bishop Edward Daly of Bloody Sunday renown – until 1992. Fitzgerald subsequently moved to England where hemarried journalist and broadcaster Rowanne Pasco, by whom he is survived.
Fitzgerald wrote for several newspapers and magazines and in the week before his unexpected death he had contributed to the Rite and Reason column in the Irish Times .
