The Daily Mail today claimed a new victory in its Banish the Bags Campaign after figures released by waste-reduction body Wrap revealed s huge reduction in the number of plastic bags produced in the UK.
The Mail launched its campaign in February last year helping prompt a number of retailers to stop giving away bags for free to shoppers. According to Wrap the number of bags given away in UK shops dropped from 13.4bn in 2007 to 9.9bn last year.
The Mail won campaign of the year in the Press Gazette Environmental Press Awards for the campaign – and was yesterday shortlisted for it in the Press Gazette British Press Awards.
