BBC journalist Rajesh Mirchandani has won the media, arts and sports
award at this year’s Lloyds TSB Central Asian Jewel Awards in
recognition of his contribution to broadcasting for Asian and non-Asian
audiences.
Mirchandani has worked in the media for more than 10 years, covering news, music and culture.
He has made TV and radio programmes around Asian issues, including the groundbreaking Café 21 debate show for Asian youth.
He
made the Radio 1 and East documentary Not Welcome in Clubland about
racism in clubs and a BBC Two documentary about young Asians on heroin.
He currently presents Backstage on Sundays on Radio 1 and the Five Live Report on BBC Five Live.
