media in Athens, which hosts the Olympic Games this summer, is to open next month.
The media facilities are being set up at Zappeion Megaron in the heart of the Greek capital.
It will be open to media representatives wishing to report on Greece, long before and during the 2004 Olympic Games, who are not accredited to the Athens Organising Committee.
The Zappeion centre will operate from May 2004 until the end of the Paralympic Games in September.
The Greek Embassy’s press and communications unit in London has strongly advised all journalists to be accredited to the centre because it will be open for five months from May to September and not just for the duration of the games which run from 13 to 29 August.
It also said accreditation to the Zappeion centre would give the opportunity for contact and interviews with Greek Government ministers and other officials on any aspects of the Olympics and other issues concerning government policies in general, the city of Athens.
Access to, and use of, the press centre facilities will be available only to media representatives with the necessary accreditation.
Accreditation applications may be submitted through the website www.mediainfo2004.gr. Applications for accreditation should be made by 30 June.
