Here’s one for the subs.
An exclamation mark (best avoided in journalism, of course) is used as a full point, thus: He ran from London to Birmingham!
But if the sentence is a quote, some papers add a full point: “He ran from London to Birmingham!”.
Is the full point necessary in the latter example? Discuss.
